Rezoning plan to free triangle site

AN EXPANDED Narellan Town Centre is one step closer now that Camden Council has voted to place on public exhibition a proposal to rezone a section of land that will be necessary for its development.
Known as the Landturn triangle site and bordered by Camden Valley Way and Old Northern Road, this land needs to be rezoned if the shopping centre is to expand.
As part of the expansion, the developers plan to upgrade the surrounding roads to alleviate congestion and parking concerns.
The work would include an upgrade of the Narellan Road and Camden Valley Way intersection, an additional through-lane from Old Northern Road to Narellan Road along Camden Valley Way, and an upgrade of Old Northern Road and its intersection with Camden Valley Way.
It is proposed that the centre's parking would be accessed away from Camden Valley Way to reduce congestion.
At last week's council meeting, several councillors commented on the importance of having more retail provisions in the Camden area to ensure that local people shop in the local area.
Addressing the council, Dart West Developments property general manager David Taylor said studies had found that there was a lack of retail in the Camden area.
"It reduces business opportunities if people have to travel to other centres," Mr Taylor said.
"There is insufficient retail planned to meet the needs of the future community."
The rezoning proposal will probably go on exhibition in the next couple of weeks.
It will then be on exhibition for 28 days.
